"Sir, I have no man."
"He will deliver the needy when he cries, the poor also, and him who has no helper." John 5:7, Psalms 72:12
A ship stranded during a hurricane has been stuck to the sea bed ever since and will probably never be afloat again. It has become a useless wreck that interest no-one, and for which nobody will donate towards its restoration. it will surely rust away.
Doesn't such a ship remind us of "stranded persons"? Many of them had a good start to life, but succumbed to the storms of temptation, their lives ruined by alcohol, drugs and other sinful acts. They have no strength to escape from their misery.
In contrast to a wreck, forgotten and left to itself, there is always hope for stranded or falling people. There is one for whom no-one is a hopeless case; Jesus Christ. He accomplished the work of redemption on the cross of Calvary that can save, liberate and re-establish any stranded person. The cross means hope for the hopeless.
This was the experience of the paralytic at the pool of Bethesda. He had been lame for 38 years; no-one could help him, he thought. But Jesus was there. He healed him and set him on his feet again.
Whoever surrenders unreservedly to the saviour, Jesus Christ, trusting only in Him, will experience that he has the power to free him or her from the worst shackles. But He can only help those who do not gloss over their misery, but break up with their old life and rest solely on Him in faith.
