"Common people are only a whisper in the wind. Important people are only a delusion. When all of them are weighed on a scale, they amount to nothing. They are less than a whisper in the wind." -Psalm 62:9
"Weighed--you have been weighed on a scale and found to be too light." -Daniel 5:27
It happened on that memorable night in which the Babylonian empire was to fall a prey to the Persians. While the hostile army was preparing to conquer the city, king Belshazzar was celebrating with his lords and wives.
Suddenly Belshazzar was horrified to see the fingers of a hand write four words on the opposite wall and then disappear. Four words sufficed for God to decide and describe the fate of Babylon and her princes: "numbered, numbered, weighed, divided. On God's scales Belshazzar had been found too light. The days of his reign were over. His kingdom would be divided. That same night God's judgment was carried out.
Weighed and found too light! God has His scales for all we do and think. It would be fatal to think that our good relationship to our fellowmen and our good deeds could carry any weight with Him. And if the whole of mankind were together on the scales, they would still be "lighter than a whisper in the wind". In us there is nothing that can satisfy God. Then how can things be put right with God? Jesus Christ came for this very purpose,to make atonement at the cross through His death and to put away our sins. Whoever accepts that by faith and turns to God, confessing all his guilt, will be welcomed and justified by God on the ground of the redeeming work of Jesus Christ. And as he walk in obedience to God, and live the life of Christ, he will then be given a new name. The Christian name which associates him with Christ. And because he now belongs to Christ,he is no longer condemned. (Roman's 8:1).
