Looking Straight Ahead

Looking Straight Ahead "Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you." -Proverb 4:25 [NLT]

Naturally,it's not possible for one to fix his eyes on something he cannot see.For example, you can't possibly fix your eyes on an aeroplane flying in the sky, while sitting on a sofa in your living-room.And again, you can't fix your eyes on something unless you are influenced by that thing.
However, when it comes to God,the law of nature is always broken. You need not see something to fix your eyes on it.An example of someone who broke this law,is Abraham. The Scripture says,"Abraham was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations,a city designed and built by God." [Hebrews 11:10]. The city was not physically there for him to see,but he believed God and set out from his home land. For one to be able to fix his eyes on something he cannot see,he must have the eyes of faith.
Many Christians are falling away because their eyes are solely fixed on what they can see.Their lives are completely influenced by what their eyes can see thus readily go for it,than hoping on something they can't see. This is the mentality that have destroyed and is still destroying many Christians today. They believe that what the eyes can see is what makes life beautiful and fulfilling.
When Abraham left his home land, the Scriptures never said he went back.It wasn't because he had nothing to miss back home, but because what he is looking forward to,is far greater than what he had left behind. To him,it was forward ever and backward never. What kept him pressing on was the fact that he fully understood what lies ahead of him and also trusted the Person leading him.Have you returned back home to your former way of life? It's simply because you never truely fully understand what lies ahead of you and who's leading you.If your relationship and fellowship with God is dying,it's simply because your eyes are fixed on what you can see.Only the eyes of faith can keep you pressing on as you fix your eyes on the city which Abraham and the saints of old looked forward to,not minding the challenges before them.
Jesus said,"Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God." [Luke 9:62].The issue of turning back as a child of God is a serious one. Many have turned back still thinking that all is well when it's not.For example,if your eyes are fixed on money, education, fame, pleasure, immorality, idolatry or other earthly things that break your spiritual connection with God,it means you've turned back already.
Remember that Lot's wife in Genesis 19:26,lost her salvation for looking back. She found it difficult to believe that the good things she fixed her eyes on back there in Sodom would actually be destroyed and therefore prefer to be destroyed along with them, than to let go.Many have either directly or indirectly chosed to rather be destroyed along with the things of this world, than to let go and gain heaven. This now leads us to a very familiar Scripture that says,"And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?" [Mark 9:36-37]
If you choose to fix your eyes on that which is not seen, your faith will keep you moving. But if you choose to turn back, then the world is yours! But remember, that which the physical eyes can see is subject to time. But that which the physical eyes cannot see,is subject to eternity.Have you turned back or are you thinking to? It's a great irrecoverable loss to give up on heaven.Be like Abraham, walk by faith!
