We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. -Proverbs 16:9.
Man Proposes; God disposes
Some time ago the case of a 23 year old female student caused a great stir. She had become infected with the so called lassa fever on a journey through West Africa.During the final days of her journey she had not been feeling well and had therefore returned home earlier than planned.Sadly, intensive treatment over several days availed nothing: she died soon after from a new, extremely aggressive form of the lassa virus.
One can well imagine the anticipation and excitement with which that young woman set out on her journey to West Africa to undertake research for her studies and afterwards enjoy a holiday. She can never have dreamt that that might be her last journey.
However,it need not be anything so spectacular; an "ordinary" car accident that is insignificant for the press is sufficient to remind us that we do not have our fate in our now hands.
How right the Word of God is! Man can plan his future, but in the final instance it is God who directs every step with foreknowledge. We have no idea whether the student knew Jesus Christ as her Lord. But everyone who has accepted Him as Savior can go his way trusting in Him,knowing that He purposes only good for those who are His as the Scripture says,"For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord."They are plans for good and not for disaster,to give you a future and a hope."" -Jeremiah 29:11.
Even a believer has no assurance that his life will be a bed of roses. He,too, can experience difficulties, accidents and sickness. But he knows his Savior and can trust Him,for Jesus Christ gave His life for him at Calvary's cross.
Now,that young student is dead, and has no more time again to make things right with God except if she did so while she was still alive. But what about you? Is your life right with God? Can you boldly say that if you were in that young woman's shoes, you would surely make heaven? If yes, then to God be the glory. But if no,then the perfect time to do something is now.At just the right time,I heard you.On the day of salvation,I helped you.Indeed, the "right time" is now.Today is the day of salvation. -2 Corinthians 6:2.
