Saved Twice

God showed how much He loved us by sending His only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him. -1 John 4:9.

Saved twice

In the indoor swimming bath a man habitually ran to the water and only dipped his big toe in it.Then he climbed to the top diving board and did a masterly dive in to the water.
When this was once mentioned to him,he said,"I think it is a question of habit,but there is a reason for it,and i'll tell you.Years ago i was a swimming instructor for a large group of men.My job was to bring their swimming and diving up to a good standard.One night i couldn't get to sleep.So i decided to go to the pool;being an instructor i had a key,and wanted to swim for a time,so as to sleep better.I didn't turn the light on since i knew the hall well.It had a glass roof,and the moon was shining through it.When i stood on the diving board,i saw the shadow of my body on the opposite wall.With my outstretched arms my silhouette was in the form of a cross.Instead of diving,i contemplated this image.
"As i stood there motionless,the thought of Christ's cross and its meaning came to my mind.I wasn't a Christian,but as a boy i had learned a hymn whose words i suddenly remembered:

"He died that we might be forgiven,
He died to do us good,
That we might go at last to heaven,
Saved by His precious blood."
I know very well how foolish the message of the cross sounds to those who are on the road to destruction.But we who are being saved recognize this message as the very power of God. -1 Corinthians 1:18.

"I don't know how long i stood on the diving board with my arms outstretched,nor why i didn't dive into the water.At any rate i eventually walked back over the board and climbed down.I went along the edge of the swimming pool to the steps so as to jump in from there.
I reached the bottom of the pool,my feet touching the hard,slippery tiles. . . . The evening before they had emptied the pool without telling me!
"A cold shudder ran down my back.Had i dived from up there,it would have been my last dive.The sign of the cross on the wall that night had saved me from death.I was so grateful that God had saved my life in His grace that i knelt down by the side of the pool.
"I was conscious that,quite apart from my life,my soul needed saving.For that another cross was necessary:the cross on which Jesus Christ had died to save you and me.And He did save me when i confessed my guilt before Him and yielded myself to Him.
"That night i was saved twice.I still have a healthy body,but far more important is that i have been saved for eternity.
"Perhabs you now understand why i always dip my big toe in the water before i dive in."

Dear friend, the testimony of this man clearly show how much God loves us.He had a knowledge of God as a boy but later turned away living a non Christian life,but despite the years spent in sin,God still showed him mercy by demostrating His love for him once again.
You may however never had knowledge of God as a child,but the message is; Jesus loves you.Accept him todapy,and He will give your life a meaning.
