Lamp And Light

Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. -Psalm 119:105
I rejoice in your word like one who finds a great treasure. -119:162.

Lamp and light
At last the remote village up in the mountains has been connected to the electricity network. The work is finished, and an inspector is visiting the inhabitants of the different houses to ensure that everything is in order. An elderly villager answers his question as to whether she is satisfied,"Yes of course! Now I can see better to light my oil lamp."
We may well smile at this, but regarding light there is much else that is remarkable. How many are there who go along groping through the moral darkness in this world. The possess a Bible, but never open it.They may read a track from time to time or a Christian calendar leaf, but that is not enough. That is similar to preferring an oil lamp to much brighter electric light.
In the course of history there have been many lengthy periods when the possession of a Bible was forbidden. How often have Christians put their lives at risk and travelled many miles to be able to read one of the few remaining copies! For these believers the Word of God was not only light for their pathway but the source from which they drew comfort and joy.
Let us not leave our Bibles on the shelf, like a lamp that remains unlit in the dark, but allow it to illuminate our pathway as the light of the Word of God,for our salvation, our preservation and our joy.
