The Lord isn't really being slow about His promise to return,as some people think. No,He is being patient for your sake.He does not want anyone to perish,so he is giving more time for everyone to repent. -2 Peter 3:9.
Saved in Christ
I had a war comrade who showed considerable disapproval when i spoke of my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He scoffed at the Word of God and thought, like so many people today, that with death all was over.
After the war I visited him.He still rejected the faith. Then he fell seriously ill.Sitting at his bedside,I asked him,"Have you ever thought about what comes after death?"
"That occupies me day and night." he replied.I endeavoured to explain to him how it is possible to put things right with God and be saved for eternity through faith in Christ."But for that you must acknowledge that you are a sinner before God and confess your sins."
He now no longer scoffed, but he could not understand how he could be a sinner, which he understood to be a very degraded person.
On my next visit he was extremely depressed."What will become of me in eternity? I am terribly afraid!" So I answered,"I have already told you what God's word says on that score. But you have to confess your sins before God yourself.Simply pray like a child:"Lord Jesus,I don't know how i can come to you,but I should so like to be saved."Then i had to leave him.
The next day he died. The ward sister told me that his last words were:"Jesus has forgiven all my sins.I am going to him.I have no more fears."
. . .I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me,even though they die like everyone else, will live again.
They are given eternal life for believing in me and will never perish. -J 11:25-26.
