The Bridge

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. -John 10:11.

The Bridge

Fire alarms sounded in Liverpool one night.A sailors' hostel was on fire.Lots of spectators gathered outside. On the upper floors they spotted some men shouting for help. The way downstairs was blocked. The ladder of the fire-engine proved to be just too short. Then one sailor who had been watching climbed to the top of the ladder, stretched out his arms to hold firmly on the window ledge and shouted,"Quick! Climb over me to the ladder! Then go down!" One after the other the sailors climbed down till all had reached safety.Last of all the rescuer reached the ground, his face scarred with burn marks, his hair singed, his hands full of blisters. He had selflessly risked his life to bridge the gap and save his colleagues.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God,came to this earth and became Man to bridge the gap separating us from God.But for this He had to sacrifice His life at the cross of Calvary. It was necessary as the cleft had been caused by our many sins. And the just punishment for sin is death."For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. -Romans 6:23.
The vicarious death of Jesus Christ thus means salvation for all who enthrust their lives to Him,turning from their sins to God."Those the Father has given me will come to me,and I will never reject them -John 6:37.As Christ bore the judgment by dying for them, they will not see the eternal fire of God's judgment, which the Bible calls "the second death"."And all who believe in God's Son have eternal life. Those who don't obey the Son will never experience eternal life, but the wrath of God remains upon them. -John 3:36.
